Jake Ferguson shines in second padded practice
Jake Ferguson had a very productive 2025 season for the Dallas Cowboys. In fact, he had his best year overall as his 82 receptions and eigth touchdowns were both career highs, and his 600 yards were the second most most he’s produced. Unfortunately, he also had three fumbles, which gave him seven over a two-year span, and his 7.3 per catch were a career low.
Despite undoubtedly being the top tight end on the team, Ferguson came into training camp needing to show that he put his up-and-down season behind him. On Tuesday, he was one of the best performers at practice
Ferguson was able to make several good plays in the passing game. One of them was a beautiful seam ball he caught in front of cornerback Shavon Revel. His biggest play of the day yardage-wise saw Ferguson turn on the jets with rookie safety Caleb Downs trailing. To top it off, Ferguson also beat safety Markquese Bell for a touchdown in the back of the end zone after a beautiful throw from Dak Prescott.
His name doesn’t get the needle moving like CeeDee Lamb or George Pickens, but Ferguson is a key element to the Cowboys’ passing game. The threat to make plays in the middle of the field helps Lamb and Pickens carve up opposing defenses and also gives Ryan Flournoy opportunities to eat. Ferguson is a chain mover as he’s racked up 95 first downs over the last three seasons.
Ferguson looks more explosive so far in camp. Granted, he’s not a burner or anything, but adding a little quickness can certainly make him a bigger weapon. He’s in the second year of his four-year, $52 million deal, and after somewhat mixed results a season ago, Ferguson is looking to remind Dallas why they extended him last July.
