Top 5 trade down scenarios for Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have their work cut out for themselves in the 2024 NFL draft. By essentially bypassing free agency and losing five starters this offseason, the organization has put almost all their apples in the draft barrel to restock what they’ve lost.
That’s not an easy feat. The Cowboys have more holes than they can fill with just three premium picks unless they use another avenue at their disposal, trades. It’s not far-fetched to believe the Cowboys would trade down in an effort to acquire more selections to improve their the future, and they’ve had the option to do so in the last three drafts.
However, Jerry Jones and company only chose to make one small move during that time (in 2021 they traded back from pick 10 to 12 to select Micah Parsons). In 2022 Dallas rebuffed an offer from the Tennessee Titans to move back and selected Tyler Smith, who it was suggested the Titans would have taken with the pick. Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs offered their first and third-round picks for the Cowboys’ selection at 26, which Dallas rejected. Likewise, it was suggested the Chiefs would have chosen who Dallas took with the pick, Mazi Smith.
If those same offers come this year, expect the Cowboys to take it and rebuild with an extra pick or two later in the draft. Here are some of the trade scenarios the Cowboys might be willing to accept this time around.
