Cowboys roster news: La’el Collins, Damien Wilson set to work out for team, could join practice squad
The Cowboys could be bringing back old friend La’el Collins for depth in the playoffs.
We are one week away from the playoffs starting and soon enough we will know exactly what path the Dallas Cowboys will be on throughout them. If Dallas wins on Sunday against the Washington Commanders, then they are the NFC East champions and #2 seed in the NFC. Should they lose they could still secure the division and second seed but obviously open themselves up to other possibilities.
While those things are unknown as far as the postseason, what is undeniable is that the Cowboys will be tested and having as much depth that they can for that will be pivotal to making a legitimate run. As far as the roster is concerned, one potential vulnerability is along the offensive line, something that the team clearly knows given that they are bringing in La’el Collins - yes, really - for a workout according to NFL Network.
Reunion? Free agent OT La’El Collins is arriving today in Dallas to work out with the #Cowboys, per me and @TomPelissero. Assuming he passes the physical, Dallas could sign him to the practice squad to work his way into football shape.

This is a really low-risk move for the Cowboys. Injuries are constantly a risk, and Collins is someone who the team knows very well, and who can perhaps provide a higher floor than Chuma Edoga if things come down to that.
Obviously Collins played most of his career with the Cowboys, but spent the 2022 season with the Cincinnati Bengals. He has not played an NFL game yet this season.
By the way, Collins is not the only former Cowboy visiting and working out for the team on Tuesday. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer former linebacker Damien Wilson will be in attendance as well.
The Cowboys are bringing in familiar faces for workouts today in OL La’el Collins and LB Damien Wilson, according to sources. Collins played for the Cowboys for 2015-21. Wilson played for Dallas from 2015-18.

Depth is depth, and at this time of year any kind that you can get is a huge help.
