Cowboys news: Brian Schottenheimer vows that changes will be made after disappointing loss
The Dallas Cowboys had an opportunity to continue their momentum when the 0-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers came to town on Thursday night. Unfortunately, they were pretty much dominated for four quarters, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer says things will be different going forward as they seek changes.
Team owner Jerry Jones made his disappointment about the game known while the battle was taking place with his reactions as well as afterwards during his postgame interview. On top of the loss, the Cowboys left the matchup with players banged up.

The Cowboys were embarrassed by the Buccaneers on Thursday night. As a result, head coach Brian Schottenheimer says the team will shake things up.
“When you are a coach, there are going to be things you’re going to correct,” he said on Friday, in the immediate aftermath of the loss. “We are solution-makers. We’re not excuse-makers, we’re solution-makers. That’s what we’re working on really, really hard right now.
“We’re having the hard conversations. We’re looking at the film. We’re studying the areas [of concern]. Those conversations are really important and we’re having them in all three phases, not just on defense.”

Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones was visibly upset watching Dallas get beat by Tampa Bay. After the game, he was detailed as to why he was frustrated.
“Extraordinarily, extraordinarily disappointed,” owner Jerry Jones said of the loss, via the team’s official website. “You really do need to get it done when it’s there to take. They basically were very physical. I thought both their fronts, was really surprised at how well they ran the ball, how they ran it between the tackles. That was surprising.”

Cowboys get injury updates on Tyler Guyton, CeeDee Lamb and Joey Porter Jr. – Joseph Hoyt, Dallas Morning News
The Cowboys left their defeat against the Buccaneers with several key players dealing with injury issues. Their statuses were updated on Friday.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said that X-rays on left tackle Tyler Guyton’s back were negative after the team’s 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday.
Guyton missed the team’s final offensive series and was replaced by former first-round pick Broderick Jones. Guyton was seen holding his back and trying to move around during the timeout before the drive, but the team quickly decided to bring him to the locker room. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said after the game that Guyton was dealing with a strain.

Dallas was bad in all three phases of the game against Tampa Bay. With that said, there wasn’t anything good to say about their performance.
As mentioned above, the cards were laid out for the Cowboys’ defense to get right against Tampa Bay on Thursday. The Buccaneers came into the game allowing the most sacks in the NFL, bottom three in giveaways and had failed to score more than 20 points in three out of four games.
Let’s look at how the defense did with that: one sack, zero takeaways and 24 points allowed. The game plan for Tampa Bay was obvious, to shorten the game with long possessions and quick plays to make life easy for its rookie quarterback. It did exactly that with zero pushback from defensive coordinator Christian Parker’s unit.

Jake Ferguson had multiple drops against the Buccaneers, with the final one turning into an interception that sealed the game for the Buccaneers. His performance highlighted a huge issue at tight end with the Cowboys.
With 1:22 on the clock, down by eight, and the Cowboys driving deep into Tampa Bay territory, Ferguson took a perfect Dak Prescott pass off the facemask for what would essentially be a game-ending interception. The play counted a staggering -4.4 EPA and marked the biggest shift in win probability of the day, dropping Dallas’ odds down to one percent.
Ferguson’s tragic blunder was the latest of a long list of errors by the 27-year-old veteran. Ferguson has been guilty of dropped passes and costly fumbles for quite some time. His blocking has lacked in both execution and effort and ability to gain yards after the catch have dropped to late-career Jason Witten levels.
