Cowboys at Eagles: The good, the bad, and ugly from Week 7
In what was a must-win game, it was good to see the Dallas Cowboys take care of business in prime time on Monday Night Football to secure the 38-21 victory over their division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. They now have a chance to string some wins together over the next few weeks and hopefully continue to get better.
While it was good to see the Cowboys secure the win in the first of two matchups with the Eagles this year, it was also obvious this team still has a lot to work on. There seemed to be more positives than negatives this week, which is a good sign things could be heading in the right direction. Hopefully that continues.
THE GOOD – RB Javonte Williams
For the first time this season the Cowboys leaned heavily on the running game and it paid off in a big way. Dallas rushed for over 200 yards, but it was Javonte Williams who led the way, rushing for 155 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries. This is the first time this season No. 33 rushed for 100+ yards, averaging an impressive 6.2 yards per carry. If this continues Dallas’ offense can get back on track and become lethal once again.
THE BAD – Cowboys’ defense
The Cowboys defense is still a major concern. They faced a shorthanded Eagles offense without their starting QB and their top two receivers and still allowed Philadelphia to put up 21 points on them. And, had Saquon Barkley been a 100%, the outcome of this game may have been different. He alone managed to rush for 62 yards and a TD on just seven carries. Christian Parker still is a lot of work on before his defense isn’t considered such a liability.
THE UGLY – Eagles’ defensive line
The Cowboys offensive line has been criticized in the first six weeks of the season. Considering the talent they have across the board, they had been underperforming and it has negatively impacted the offensive production. On Monday night against the Eagles they looked much improved. They provided a clean pocket for Dak Prescott to throw from the and opened up huge holes for Javonte Williams to run through.
The Cowboys gave up zero sacks and zero tackles for loss in the game. Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis were non-factors. The offensive line made Philadelphia’s defensive line look ugly.
