3 predictions for the Cowboys at Seahawks preseason game
We are finally in August, and with that comes the glorified exhibition schedule known as the preseason. For many fans, seeing their favorite teams line up against one another can be exciting; for others, it may draw a big yawn.
For the players, however, it is a chance to show the coaches what they’ve got, part of a three-week stretch that could make or break their path to the 53-man roster. Today we’ll examine the Dallas Cowboys’ preseason opener against the defending Super Bowl champion, the Seattle Seahawks, with three predictions.
Defenders will be hungry
Fans have heard how intense the practices have been so far, with physicality standing out. The defense, along with new defensive coordinator Christian Parker, have led that charge. Players like Shavon Revel, who is having a strong camp, and Justin Barron, who is still not yet penciled into a roster spot even after securing three interceptions in the joint practice against the Rams, should be bringing the energy they’ve built up in Oxnard.
Among their play-calls, Dallas likely won’t reveal anything of note, but having the players in the right places would be a huge step for this defense compared to a year ago.
The offense will try to highlight potential RB2 and WR5
The offense has a ton of continuity from last season, so the top levels are essentially etched in stone at this point. Yet, the Cowboys’ search for a running back to spell Javonte Williams seems to be ongoing.
Earlier in the week, there was positional movement there with the Cowboys bringing in Jashaun Corbin, and although Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah have had some moments in camp, the rumbling is that Dallas still wants to see more from the backs behind Williams, even if Blue might be a lock for the 53-man roster.
The receiver situation is a bit different; basically, slots 1-4 are taken, and by all accounts, the Cowboys are only going to carry five wide receivers into the 2026 season, meaning one spot is up for grabs. Between Jonathan Mingo, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, the fast-rising Camden Brown, and even Treashon Holden, the Cowboys will likely try to showcase them all for a fair shot at that last WR spot.
The Cowboys will continue their preseason Week 1 losing streak
As noted on BTB, the Cowboys have lost their last eight preseason openers. Because it’s the preseason, we’ll forego a score prediction here, but the guess is that the Cowboys reserves play well and give fans some glimpses of optimism, but overall they lose the game and continue the streak.
