Ranking the top 10 players on the Cowboys’ 2026 roster: #2 Dak Prescott
Just a few weeks stand between the Dallas Cowboys and the start of 2026 training camp. Dallas officially reports to Oxnard on July 28th, with the first training camp practice taking place on the 29th.
The Cowboys’ roster looks significantly different from what it did at this time last year, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. With that thought in mind, today we continue our series ranking the top 10 players on the Cowboys’ roster for the 2026 season.
2) Dak Prescott
Age: 32
Years Pro: 10
NFL Awards: 4x Pro Bowl, 1x All-Pro (2023; 2nd Team) 1x Offensive Rookie Of The Year
2025 Recap: Coming off a disaster of a 2024 season for both Prescott and the Cowboys, the veteran quarterback faced pressure to bounce back in a big way in 2025. As he’s done throughout his entire NFL career, the former fourth-round pick did not let adversity get the best of him, putting on display a dominant 2025 campaign.
Prescott stayed healthy throughout the regular season and was, without a doubt, one of the most productive quarterbacks in football. The veteran finished the year with a 67% completion percentage and 30 passing touchdowns to go with a 99.5 Passer Rating and an extremely impressive 70.2 QBR.
The 32-year-old threw two or more touchdown passes in 10 of Dallas’ 17 regular-season games and had a Passer Rating above 100 eight times. His 31 big-time throws, via Pro Football Focus, were the sixth-most in the NFL, and his PFF passing grade of 85.4 was fifth in the NFL and the second-highest of any season in his career.
Any way you look at it, Dallas’ signal-caller was absolutely dominant last season. His consistency was a huge reason the Cowboys’ offense had such a successful year.
2026 Preview: If Prescott is healthy in 2026, it’s hard to see a world in which he is not one of the best statistical quarterbacks in football. The problem for the Cowboys is that since 2020, the veteran has had an unfortunate every-other-year injury trend.
Starting in 2020, Prescott played in just five games before suffering a brutal ankle injury that forced him to miss the rest of the year. The following season, he stayed healthy and played in all 16 regular-season games. From 2022 to 2025, the same trend continued as the veteran had an injury during the even years and was fully healthy for the odd ones.
Prescott will be 33-years-old on July 29th. He’s taken plenty of punishment throughout the course of his 10-year NFL career, including being pressured 233 times last season to go with being sacked 31 times. Prescott’s times sacked total easily could have been 40+ if it were not for his ability to navigate the pocket and consistently escape danger.
While he did play exceptionally well, it was clear the veteran quarterback took a beating last season. As he enters his age 33 season, it will be extremely important that Dallas’ offensive line keeps Prescott upright and does not let him take as much punishment as he did last year.
If Prescott can stay on the field and healthy, he’s going to have another dominant year. Dallas’ chances of being a Super Bowl contender go out the window if the quarterback has to miss any significant time, so let’s hope Prescott is able to buck the even-year injury trend in 2026.
Prediction: Dak Prescott plays in 16 regular season games, recording 36 touchdown passes, finishing third in NFL MVP voting.
