BREAKING: Dallas Cowboys agree with safety Jalen Thompson on 3-year, $36M deal
The Dallas Cowboys have addressed their secondary in a huge way. The NFL’s legal tampering window open on Monday but no deals can become officially official until Wednesday, which opened the door for negotiations to happen and for parties to come to terms.
The Cowboys have come to terms on a safety.
Dallas has agreed to terms with Jalen Thompson
There was a lot of chatter in the lead-up to free agency that the Cowboys had interest in safety Jalen Thompson. That was clearly representative of reality as Dallas has reeled him in. It is reportedly a 3-year, $36M deal.
It is worth noting that Thompson has familiarity with new Cowboys secondary coach Ryan Smith based on their time together in Arizona, and that seems to have played a role in Thompson joining the Cowboys.
Thompson is set to turn 28 years old this offseason and has played all seven seasons to date for Arizona. He has versatility that the team can use in Christian Parker’s new defense. Overall he is sort of exactly what they need.
Dallas restructured Malik Hooker’s deal on Monday morning so we know that he is going to be a part of the plan on the back end moving forward. It goes without saying that the Cowboys have needs across their entire defense, but establishing a presence at safety was a top priority. That has been taken care of now.
