He anchored the Cowboys’ offensive line for over a decade, earning eight Pro Bowl selections and being named All-Pro multiple times showing just how uniquely talented he was. Smith’s dominance in both pass protection and run blocking made him a critical piece of the offense, protecting quarterbacks like Tony Romo and Dak Prescott while opening lanes for Ezekiel Elliott and DeMarco Murray on his record-setting season.
Best known for:
Smith was best known for being the stalwart blindside protector on one of the best offensive lines in football, but he’s also known for his health issues, which saw him miss multiple games each season for a long stretch of his career.
Lesser known fact:
Smith started his Cowboys career at right tackle and showed promise prompting a move to the left side in his sophomore season. The position switch would be a wise choice as history shows.
