Could Shavon Revel be the pick in the second round?

We continue our 2025 NFL Draft preview of draft prospects that could interest the Dallas Cowboys. Today we are looking at cornerback Shavon Revel out of East Carolina.

Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 194-lbs
Arm Length: 32 5/8”
Hand Size: 9 5/8”

Strengths:

+ Big frame that oozes length

+ Showcases impressive athleticism on tape pre-ACL tear

+ Impressive closing speed and burst to close windows in a hurry

+ Impressive instincts in zone coverage to read quarterbacks body language and eyes

+ Stays attached to receivers hip when carrying routes vertically

+ Uses arm length well to break up passes and take the football away

+ Showed very little panic with his back to the football

+ High-character guy that competes until the final whistle

Weaknesses:

- Still on the recovery trail from torn ACL suffered early in the 2024 season

- Very limited action as a full-time starter at East Carolina

- Will need to add strength to match NFL power in the run game and at receiver

- Despite his size and length, his game translates better to zone-heavy schemes

- Can play high in his pedal leading to clunky transitions

- Can be a bit tentative when stepping up in run support

- Limited reps against NFL talent

- Very little experience playing in the slot

Round Grade:

2nd

Overall Summary:

If not for the torn ACL suffered three games into the 2024 season, we probably would be talking about East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel as a first-round lock. Revel has natural cover skills, showing fluidity, explosiveness, and savvy hand placement to overwhelm receivers off the line and at the catch point. While some will question competition concerns, Revel dominated his competition at East Carolina and has all the traits you hope for in a top 40 cornerback. Revel’s medical rechecks will be important, but if things look good with the knee do not be shocked if Revel hears his name called on day one at the back end of the first round. For the Cowboys, he could be an ideal candidate for the 44th overall pick if he is still available.
