Rumors are off and running about the Dallas Cowboys.

There are going to be a lot of things said between now and the 2025 NFL Draft. This is the way that this sort of thing goes. With nothing but time between now and the draft, there are all sorts of idle hands and therefore opportunities for them to do this, that and the other. The NFL combine is full of news, notes and nuggets, and on Thursday morning a rather juicy one made its way to the forefront.

ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio sat down with 105.3 The Fan’s Shan Shariff, RJ Choppy and Bobby Belt on Thursday morning and the group was talking about Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter. It was revealed on Wednesday night that Carter has a stress reaction in his right foot and may need surgery. This could cause Carter to potentially slip in the NFL draft while many believe he could go number one overall.

As the group was discussing the number one overall pick and that potential for Carter, Florio noted that so much of it hinges on which team holds that pick. Currently the Tennessee Titans have the draft’s top selection, but according to Florio the Cowboys have checked in on it.

“I did hear yesterday... you hear all sorts of stuff. And I don’t like to traffic in stuff I’ve heard because I don’t know how accurate it is. But I did have somebody tell me that the Cowboys have talked to the Titans about moving up to number one.”

“Now I think a lot of teams talk about moving around and I don’t know if you guys have heard that. But that’s a jump and I don’t know what you would have to put into that or whether you’d have to put Micah Parsons into that package if it would go that way. But teams talk all the time... they talk all the time.”

Florio hedged a bit at the end, but what he said is hardly hedging as much as it is the facts of how this thing goes as previously noted. It makes sense for everyone to call everyone to ask about anything and everything. Consider the report from a few years ago when Washington called Kansas City about Patrick Mahomes. People can’t say “yes” unless you give them an opportunity to. Just ask Luka Doncic’s new employer in the Los Angeles Lakers.

If we were to tolerate this discussion, who would Dallas even be interested in going up to get? And why would Micah Parsons be involved? Even if (another if) you think highly of someone like Abdul Carter, your best hope is that he turns into Micah Parsons and you already have Micah Parsons! It is Peter Griffin’s classic “it could be a boat” plight.

Again, making calls is simply being responsible and looking under every rock (assuming the call even happened). We say all of the time that we want the Cowboys to do any and all work possible. So good for them! Kind of.
