Did the Cowboys make a big mistake letting this weapon walk in free agency?

Letting Tony Pollard walk in free agency last March was a cost-saving move, plain and simple. It wasn’t the Cowboys being deluded enough to think Ezekiel Elliott was somehow better than Pollard. It was to save the team somewhere between $5 million and $10 million in salary.

After years of overpaying the running back position the Cowboys seemed to have finally had enough. After playing 2023 on a franchise tag Pollard moved to the music city, replacing a legend in Derrick Henry. In Dallas it was a legend returning. After playing one season away in 2023, Elliott made his return to the team that once took him fourth overall in the 2016 NFL draft. Together with Rico Dowdle, Elliott has helped form one of the most ineffective running back duos in the NFL. The Cowboys are dead last in team rushing yards this season, making the case to some, they should have kept Pollard.
