Cowboys vs. Lions: Week 6 matchups to watch for the Dallas Cowboys
Sunday is going to be a very difficult game for the Cowboys.
In back-to-back weeks the Dallas Cowboys have been able to secure a couple of tough road victories against the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, but now return home to take on an even tougher opponent. The Detroit Lions have played like one of the better teams in the league this year and will be out for blood in this Week 6 matchup with the Cowboys.
Considering the way things ended between these two teams last year with the entire reporting eligible or not debacle, this Week 6 matchup is shaping up to be somewhat of a grudge match/revenge game for the Detroit Lions. And sadly, they have a lot going in their favor this week.
Not only will Detroit have the advantage of extra preparation time due to them coming off their bye week, but Dallas' current injury situation to several key starters is a pretty significant concern as well. That means winning certain head-to-head matchup's this week could be all the more important. Below are the ones we will be keeping a close eye on.
RT Terence Steele vs. DE Aidan Hutchinson
Aidan Hutchinson had himself a three QB sack day against the Cowboys when these two teams met last year in December. You can bet he's licking his chops to to have a repeat performance against the Cowboys once again, and will likely try to take advantage of Terence Steele's current struggles in pass protection. Steele has already given up three QB sacks this year and will be hard-pressed to keep Hutchinson from increasing his sack total.
CB Jourdan Lewis vs. WR Amon-Ra St. Brown
Amon-Ra St. Brown has proven he's more than just a slot WR in his young career, but that does seem to be where he is the most effective/dangerous. That means he will likely be squared off against Dallas' nickel CB Jourdan Lewis quite a bit in this Week 6 matchup. We can probably expect quite a bit of feistiness and trash talk back and forth between these two, but whoever has a better game could help sway things in their team's favor.
Cowboys' run defense vs. RB Jahmyr Gibbs/David Montgomery
The Cowboys run defense was abysmal in back-to-back weeks against the Saints and Ravens, but since then have had consecutive games where they have held their opponents in check. It's going be interesting to see what their plans are trying to contain Detroit's dynamic RB duo this week. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery complement each other almost perfectly and will likely be the toughest test Dallas has faced to date.
