Last week was a tough one for Dallas Cowboys rookies.

It was both an unlikely and impressive win on Sunday evening in Pittsburgh. The Cowboys showed resolve and determination to come back in the dying seconds on Sunday night. The team had to dig deep, and that included the rookies who made sacrifices for the win. Here’s a break down of how each rookie played last week.

OT Tyler Guyton

Guyton has been taking some flak over the past couple of weeks. Sure, it’s not perfect what he’s been doing and fans are rationally disappointed, but he’s a rookie offensive linemen and those players take time to develop. Not every first-round lineman drops in and performs like Zack Martin did, guys like Martin are a unicorn. Unfortunately, Guyton went out of the game during the second quarter and never returned. For the good news, he was seen trying to loosen up during the third quarter on the sideline and it’s reported his knee injury isn’t deemed serious and is classified as day-to-day. The only thing to do for now is keep watch of his practice designation this week ready for Detroit this Sunday.

DE Marshawn Kneeland

News broke Monday that Kneeland’s knee injury isn’t deemed to be season-ending and not an ACL tear. Kneeland sustained an injury during the Steelers’ opening drive while trying to tackle quarterback Justin Fields. After being assessed, Kneeland was later taken to the locker room on a cart. Initially, he was considered questionable to return, but ultimately, he was ruled out for the remainder of the game. According to reports, Kneeland tore his meniscus and will now have surgery to repair the injury. It means it’s not season-ending for Kneeland but will likely miss a month or so to recover.

C Cooper Beebe

Beebe managed to play every snap last week. He was one of only two offensive lineman to not draw a flag against Pittsburgh, which includes the replacement lineman. On 46 passing sets, Beebe allowed zero sacks and only two pressures. This is now his second week in a row to not allow a sack. His run blocking was also much improved this week over previous weeks, and that was seen numerous times on inside runs against a solid Pittsburgh defensive line that had been playing well against the run.

LB Marist Liufau

Liufau played 24 defensive snaps last week. He made one tackle but also managed to break one pass up. He was mostly rotating in but was an integral part of a defense that kept Pittsburgh to less than 100 rush yards, the first time the Steelers failed to reach that milestone in a game this season.

WR Ryan Flournoy

As expected with the Brandin Cooks injury, Flournoy was elevated to the active roster. He played 10 snaps on offense and was almost used exclusively as an extra run blocker. He was targeted zero times and ran four routes during the game.

TE Brevyn Spann-Ford

Ford played 15 snaps last week. He made two receptions, with his first one being an impressive 13-yard catch and run in the first quarter. His second catch came on a third-down play during the fourth quarter and proved to be a reliable receiver.
