Cowboys at Browns inactives: Jedrick Wills Jr. and Jack Conklin out for Cleveland
Jack Conklin and Jedrick Wills are both OUT for Cleveland.
The Cowboys are just over an hour away from kicking off the new season with a road game against the Browns. The biggest news of the day already came in the form of Dak Prescott’s new deal, but now we have a clearer picture of who will be suiting up around the newly-minted highest paid player in the NFL with the inactives list.
Probably the biggest surprise here is Andrew Booth Jr., whom the team traded for shortly before the preseason began. We already knew that rookie Caelen Carson would get the start opposite Trevon Diggs with DaRon Bland out, but Booth was anticipated as the primary backup at cornerback. Now, he’ll be in street clothes for the season opener.
Joining Booth on the inactive list are John Stephens Jr., Buddy Johnson, Ryan Flournoy, Matt Waletzko, and Trey Lance; as was the case every week last season, Lance is the Cowboys’ designated emergency quarterback. Only Stephens is inactive for injury reasons, as he was ruled out earlier in the week with a hamstring injury. Otherwise, it’s a fairly clean bill of health for the Cowboys.
The Browns, on the other hand, listed both starting tackles on the inactive list in a development that could loom large in this game. Left tackle Jedrick Wills was ruled out earlier in the week with a knee injury, but right tackle Jack Conklin was questionable with his own knee injury. Now, neither will suit up in this one. That should present a golden opportunity for the likes of Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence.
