Cowboys 2024 rookie report: Draft class underwhelming vs Ravens
Cowboys rookies struggled against the Ravens.
The Dallas Cowboys were perfect last season at home and went on a league-leading home streak record. This season the Cowboys have yet to record a win at AT&T stadium. The entire team was another let down, but how did the rookie class for Dallas perform last week?
OT Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton had a rough day and this was his worst performance from all three games so far. He allowed a sack and two total pressures. The offensive line had plenty of issues last week with penalties, Guyton was one of those and had problems all day keeping the pass rush at bay from Baltimore.
Teething problems with rookie offensive linemen are always going to happen and it’s all about learning quickly to get those issues reduced with each game. The good news was in the fourth quarter, when the Cowboys were making a last ditch effort, Guyton was playing better.
DE Marshawn Kneeland
Marshawn Kneeland played only ten snaps and that is now the lowest total he’s had in a game and has progressively been reduced from Week 1. He recorded two tackles on his ten snaps and no pressures or sacks. The defensive line had so many holes and was like a revolving door for both Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, so you have to wonder how much difference the rookie defensive end would have made. But why such a low snap count for a defender best suited against the run needs more answers here.
iOL Cooper Beebe
Kyle Van Noy got the better of Cooper Beebe on one play which put Dak on the ground, and there was one play where Dak got a bad knock from a heavy tackle during a pass upfield. Beebe also allowed two pressures against the Ravens but the key aspect to take away from the game was Beebe’s snapping, which was sound, and his communication. Both are looking fine and not something to be concerned about for now.
LB Marist Liufau
Liufau made a couple of impressive plays, including one fantastic defensive stop which sparked the defense up for a moment. He played 29 snaps and was one of the teams better run defenders last week. That’s not saying much based on the defensive performance in general, but it’s a positive check towards the rookie linebacker and got to flash his athleticism.
CB Caelen Carson
Carson had another tough day. It’s wasn’t bad but also wasn’t great. Missed tackles were an issue with the defensive backs and getting caught on tight angles. Carson missed two tackles and allowed three receptions off four targets for a total of 63 yards (most on the team). The shame was Carson didn’t get his hand on the ball or make any pass breakups. Plenty to work on for Carson.
WR Ryan Flournoy
Inactive/Did not play in this game.
TE Brevyn Spann-Ford
Spann-Ford played nine snaps against the Ravens and his snap count would naturally go down with the return of Jake Ferguson. He was primarily used as a run blocker but the issue was penalties. Ford had a pre-snap penalty early in the game and that set the tone for what was to come. On his nine plays, Ford was flagged twice killing two plays.
