Cowboys training camp: Undrafted star of the day
Jalen Cropper is starting to turn heads.
The Dallas Cowboys returned to the sunny practice fields of Oxnard, CA, for this year’s Blue and White Practice on Saturday. The Cowboys are slightly banged up as tight end Luke Schoonmaker and defensive back Israel Mukuamu sat out of Saturday’s events. Deuce Vaughn and Ryan Flournoy were also absent from the practice. The summer is a grind, and availability is critical when the front office decides to shape the final roster. The daily grinders will stand out, and today’s undrafted star impressed with some tough catches.
Jalen Cropper is a player who flashed during training camp last season and got off to a hot start to begin the summer festivities before cooling off. Although he didn’t make the roster, he made enough of an impression to stick around on the roster for this year’s camp.
Cropper made several plays at Saturday’s practice and scored twice in two-minute drives. On the first score, Cropper made a terrific grab in the back corner of the end zone against Jourdan Lewis while getting both feet in bounds as he fell to the ground, making the catch. Cooper Rush found Cropper on a crossing pattern on the next score and he waltzed into the end zone after making the catch.

Today’s Jeffrey Player of the Day is Jalen Cropper. First team, second team, third team. Made plays all day including the TD in 2 minute with both the 1s and 2s.

The Cowboys’ wide receivers have been very competitive in the absence of CeeDee Lamb. Jalen Brooks and Jalen Tolbert have been outstanding. Also, fellow undrafted receiver Tyron Billy-Johnson has turned heads in the past week. If Cropper wants to plant his flag among a crowded room of roster hopefuls, he needs to keep up performances like this and show up big in the preseason.
