Predicting Cowboys' 2024 training camp and preseason standouts
Looking at Dallas Cowboys who may begin to stand out as training camp begins.
The Dallas Cowboys will report to Oxnard, California July 24 to kick off training camp this year, meaning before we know it things will be in full swing in preparation for the upcoming 2024 season. Before we reach that point though, we thought we'd take a shot at predicting which players will stand out in training camp and preseason for the Cowboys this year.
QB Trey Lance
It seems as if Trey Lance has been a member of the Dallas Cowboys for a while now, but this will actually be his first training camp/preseason with the organization since joining the team via trade last year. The Cowboys are likely going have him heavily involved to not only figure out what they have in the young QB, but to also showcase his skill set for potential trade interest. Don't be surprised to see him making numerous plays with both his arm and legs.
OC Cooper Beebe
It'll be a little more difficult for Cooper Beebe to stand out in training camp considering the physicality and hard-hitting will be tempered due to league rules, but don't be surprised to see him shine in preseason games when there is nothing to hold him back. He may have never played center during his time at Kansas State, but he has the talent, physicality, and mental makeup to step in and dominate from the get-go as a rookie as the Cowboys new OC.
TE John Stephens Jr.
John Stephens Jr. was a surprising training camp/preseason standout for the Cowboys last year after joining the team as an undrafted free agent. Unfortunately for him, an untimely season-ending knee injury cut his rookie year short prior to the start of the regular season before he had a chance to really prove himself. He may be brought along slowly due to his injury, but he should rebound and once again stand out among his peers.
WR Ryan Flournoy
Expect to see quite a battle at the wide receiver position behind CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks on the depth chart. There's a lot of young intriguing WRs who could emerge as training camp and preseason standouts, but this year's sixth-round pick Ryan Flournoy is our choice to separate from the pack. At 6'1", 200-pounds with 4.4 speed, he is a big, physical WR who could potentially emerge as the favorite to become the WR3 this year.
LB Marist Liufau
Other than maybe Eric Kendricks, it looks as if there will be an open competition to earn a starting job at linebacker with the Cowboys this year. Whether that's true or not, Marist Liufau is someone we believe will be a training camp and preseason standout after generating quite a bit of buzz in OTAs and minicamp. At 6'2", 239-pounds, he is tailor-made to play in Mike Zimmer's system and his talent/instincts should get him on the field early.
