Cowboys’ cornerbacks Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland named as one of NFL’s best young duos

Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland belong among the NFL’s very best cornerback duos.

The Dallas Cowboys have some great young talent on their roster. Dallas has five players age 25 or younger who have been named an All-Pro at least once. If you count Pro Bowls made, the number goes up to six.

Some of Dallas’ best young players include superstars Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb. You also can’t forget about Tyler Smith, who has been one of the best guards in football since he was drafted back in 2022.

You could make a solid argument that Parsons, Lamb, and Smith are the three best players on Dallas’ entire roster. The trio is outstanding, but there’s also another young duo on the roster that deserves some praise, that being cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland.

Diggs and Bland are two of the best ball-hawking corners in the league, combining to record 32 interceptions throughout both of their careers. The two may be the best cornerback duo in the league, and they received some high praise this week.

Bleacher Report published an article ranking The NFL’s Top 10 Young Duos, ahead of the 2024 season. The list would only include players who are 26 or younger, and Dallas’ secondary duo of Diggs and Bland came in at seventh on the list.

Here’s what they had to say about Dallas’ cornerbacks.

Once in awhile, these guys will get toasted. That’s the nature of playing an aggressive style in coverage.

Nevertheless, the Dallas Cowboys won’t complain much about a handful mistakes because of the rewards. Trevon Diggs nabbed 11 interceptions in 2021, and DaRon Bland snagged nine in 2023—and broke an NFL record with five returned for a touchdown, too.

Diggs and Bland are absolute playmakers on defense.

Unfortunately for Dallas, an early ACL injury sidelined Diggs for much of last season. His recovery is on track, however, and the Cowboys are poised to showcase a pair of All-Pro corners in 2024.

If you were looking for a duo comprised of a team’s best players under 26, there’s no denying Dallas’ would be Parsons and Lamb. The ranking stuck with duos who played on the same side of the ball, making Parsons and Lamb ineligible for the list.

It’s interesting Dallas’ lockdown cornerbacks were taken over Parsons, but there is some reasoning behind the decision that makes sense. If healthy, Diggs and Bland will present nightmares to opposing offenses, and it’s very plausible the duo could finish with 13-15 interceptions combined. If opposing quarterbacks make even the slightest mistake, Diggs and Bland will make them pay in a big way.

The Cowboys struggled to get the cornerback position right for many years, but they’ve finally figured it out with two of the best in the league on their roster.
