5 training camp/preseason bold predictions for the Dallas Cowboys

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants

We have some bold predictions for what we could see from the Dallas Cowboys throughout training camp and the preseason.

Football activities are finally about to heat up when the Dallas Cowboys report to Oxnard, California on July 24 for training camp. After a long, and somewhat frustrating, offseason due to the Cowboys limited activity in free agency, we will finally start to get a better idea of what type of team the organization can put together for the upcoming 2024 season. With the help of training camp and preseason, we will get a pretty good idea of this team’s capabilities this year. Before we reach that point, we thought we'd share some bold predictions.

Deuce Vaughn outperforms his RB peers

There's no reason to believe Deuce Vaughn is a roster lock right now with the Cowboys. Despite that, there is a good possibility he could outperform his running back peers in training camp and preseason. Dallas still needs to find out what they have in Vaughn and if he's worth keeping around. Because of that, and the fact both Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle are known commodities who could be on somewhat of a pitch count, the opportunities for No. 42 to prove his worth should be aplenty, thus helping him outperform his peers.

Cooper Beebe looks like a natural at OC

Cooper Beebe played nearly every position along the offensive line during his time at Kansas State except center, the one he's projected to start with the Cowboys this year. With no previous starting experience at OC there is some concern Beebe won't be up to the task of replacing Tyler Biadasz, but we think the opposite is true. From his blocky build, talent, and athleticism, the former two-time Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year possesses all of the intangibles to be a natural from Day 1 as a rookie.

Ryan Flournoy challenges for the WR3 job

As things stand right now it's presumed Jalen Tolbert is penciled in as the WR3 on the Cowboys depth chart behind CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks. While that may be true, he won't go unchallenged and we believe Ryan Flournoy will push him for the job. Flournoy and Tolbert somewhat share the same kind of size/speed and small school background. That of course only makes this potential head-to-head WR battle all the more intriguing. Because of all that, these two will battle it out for the WR3 job.

DeMarvion Overshown will be Dallas' best LB

The position battle that will take place at linebacker for the Cowboys is one of the more intriguing to keep track of throughout training camp/preseason. The player we believe who will emerge and set himself apart from the group is the former Texas LB. He was on his way to become a starter last year as a rookie prior to his season-ending knee injury and should pick up where he left off in Year 2. While he will likely be brought along slowly/cautiously, we predict he will end up looking like Dallas' best LB, even over Eric Kendricks.

Trey Lance shines, creates QB controversy among fans/media

Trey Lance has yet to take a single significant snap at quarterback during his time with the Cowboys. That's about to change once training camp and preseason gets underway. Dallas is going to showcase their young QB to not only find out what they have in him, but to possibly peak the interest of potential trade partners as well. We are predicting he will not only showcase the talent that got him drafted No. 3 overall in 2021, but that he plays so well he creates a QB controversy among the media and fans alike.
