The top 5 defensive tackles for Cowboys to consider in 2024 draft
One glaring area of improvement for the Dallas Cowboys as they move forward, is run defense. They could continue to address this issue with a defensive tackle selection in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Former Cowboys’ defensive coordinator ran a defense designed to create pressure on the quarterback and take the ball away with multiple, usually at least 5, ball hawk defensive backs on the field. New defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer tends to run a more stout defense. He likes big and physical defensive tackles and isn’t afraid of utilizing a more traditional 3 linebacker approach when matching personnel to the offense. If they go big, he goes big. This should be a welcomed change of pace for Cowboys fans.
But does Zimmer have the players to do it? Not currently. Even with last year’s first round draft pick Mazi Smith, the defensive tackle position needs more bodies. There are currently only 3 defensive tackles on the Cowboys depth chart. Here’s more on the best available defensive tackles in this year’s draft.
