Dak Prescott makes big throws to keep home winning streak alive

QB1 had his best performance in weeks against the Detroit Lions on Saturday.

With 3:40 remaining in the first quarter, the Cowboys found themselves down 3-0 against the Detroit Lions on Saturday night. At their own eight-yard line, QB Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense needed to pick up 13 yards on third down to keep the drive alive. After snapping the ball, it looked like the Cowboys were about to be down 5-0 as Lions LB Derrick Barnes had a clear shot at sacking Prescott for a safety. However, Barnes whiffed on the tackle, allowing Prescott to step aside and start rolling out to extend the play. Outside of the pocket and off his back foot, Prescott threw a bomb downfield to WR CeeDee Lamb who burned the Lions secondary and scored a 92-yard touchdown to take the lead. The touchdown throw is the longest of Prescott’s career, and the third-longest play from scrimmage in Dallas Cowboys history.

Later in the game, Cowboys found themselves down three points again. In the fourth quarter, the Lions had a 13-10 lead and were threatening to end the Cowboys 15-game home winning streak. Prescott had other plans as he led the Cowboys down the field with several nice throws. He capped off the drive with a beautiful touchdown pass to WR Brandin Cooks to take the lead.

The Cowboys ended up winning the game 20-19 after a nail-biting finish. Prescott finished the game 26/38 for 345 passing yards and two touchdowns with one interception. The focus of the night was WR CeeDee Lamb, who broke the franchise record for single-season receptions and receiving yards. However, Prescott’s ability to make big throws in the passing game throughout the night was a big factor in the Cowboys extending their winning-streak at AT&T Stadium to a league-high 16 games. The Cowboys travel to Washington for their final game of the season next week, looking to finish 12-5 for the third straight season.

But more importantly, the Philadelphia Eagles loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday means the Cowboys are playing for the NFC East against the Commanders in Week 18. A Dallas win means an NFC East crown, the number two seed in the NFC, and at minimum one home game in the playoffs.
