Cowboys at Commanders picks and predictions, plus the rest of NFL Week 18 picks
Our picks are in for Week 18 as well as Sunday’s matchup for the Cowboys.
It comes down to one game for the Dallas Cowboys at the end of the regular season. One win over the Washington Commanders and the Cowboys are the NFC East champions for this year. With that comes a home playoff game, plus another if they win the first one because they will also be the number two seed.
The Cowboys are heavily favored. There have even been rumblings that Washington may care more about their draft pick position than winning the game. DraftKings Sportsbook has the Cowboys as 13-point favorites over the Commanders.
At times we know that Dallas struggles on the road, and on turf. This is an NFC East game so you never know. Last year the Cowboys got smacked around in the season finale by this Washington franchise. Could an upset happen, or at least Washington covering the spread?
Let’s see what some other sites say about the game.
The Cowboys need this one to lock up the NFC East. They squeaked by last week against the Lions, but won’t do that here. They will handle this one easily and move on to the playoffs as division champs as Dak Prescott has a big day.
Pick: Cowboys 36, Commanders 21
This type of pick is a popular one this week - the Cowboys in a rout, covering the spread.
Dallas is in control of winning the NFC East just when it looked like it would need to settle for opening the playoffs on the road again as a top wild card. All it needs to do is win at woeful Washington, but you can bet in this classic matchup of arch-rivals, the Commanders would like nothing more than to play spoilers.
The Cowboys aren’t a great road team and will keep the hosts in it with limited rushing success and giving up some flashes in the passing game. Unfortunately, the Commanders can’t complete the upset because they can’t cover CeeDee Lamb.
Pick: Cowboys win 27-20 but fail to cover the spread.
But you also this pick a lot, the Cowboys narrowly winning and not covering the spread. Being on the road and playing a divisional game can make people nervous the large spread.
By winning this, Cowboys would win the NFC East. They’re not as good on the road as at home, but they’re better than Washington. Will the Commanders clean house after the season?
Prediction: Cowboys 27, Commanders 21
Here is another close one with a Dallas win.
Dallas entered the final weekend of 2023 seemingly destined for the NFC’s fifth seed and a road playoff game. Combine a controversial ending with a massive upset, and within 48 hours, the Cowboys found themselves ringing in the new year atop the NFC East and in control of the conference’s No. 2 slot. (2024 is NOT messing around!) I don’t see Dallas wasting its generous gift by losing to a Washington squad currently on a seven-game skid — especially not when a win guarantees that the Cowboys open the playoffs at AT&T Stadium, where they’re 8-0 this season. As much as the Commanders might want to play spoiler, and avenge the Thanksgiving Day thrashing they were handed by Dak & Co., their new year begins just as their 2023 ended — with a double-digit loss at home.
Basically it’s impossible to find picks that have the Commanders winning, but whether Dallas covers is the big question.
