Despite back-to-back losses, Micah Parsons remains betting favorite for DPOY
DraftKings Sportsbook still has Micah Parsons as the odds-on favorite to win his first DPOY award.
The Dallas Cowboys are currently on a two-game losing streak, something that hasn’t happened under Mike McCarthy since 2020. Their back-to-back losses have made the path to winning the NFC East more difficult, as the Philadelphia Eagles now have to lose to either the Arizona Cardinals (3-12) or the New York Giants (5-10) in order for the Cowboys to win the division. Their current slump has also negatively impacted QB Dak Prescott’s chances to win the MVP award for the 2023 season. Heading into Week 15 against the Buffalo Bills, Prescott was the favorite to win the award according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Now, he has the sixth-highest odds to win the award at a listing of +2000.
While Prescott has likely missed out on the most valuable player award, the Cowboys still have a player in the running for one of the prestigious yearly honors. Edge rusher Micah Parsons is currently the favorite to win the defensive player of the year award with -115 odds.

Parsons being viewed as the favorite to win the award may come as a surprise to some, as he has only registered half a sack in his past two games. His 13.0 sacks this season is tied for seventh-highest in the league with Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett. While his stats in the box score against the Dolphins may not be eye-catching, Parsons was still able to get eight pressures on Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa. His eight pressures each came under 2.5 seconds.

Pressuring the quarterback has been something Parsons has excelled at throughout the season. His 97 pressures this year ranks highest in the league, with San Francisco 49ers’ DE Nick Bosa having the second-most with 88. With this statistic in mind, it is hard to fathom that Parsons has been unable to draw a holding call in nine games. His last drawn holding penalty occurred on October 16 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Parsons is proving his dominance across the league despite not receiving favors from the officiating crews. Parsons earned first-team All-Pro in each of his first two seasons since being drafted by the Cowboys. He also was the runner-up for the DPOY award each of those seasons. This year may finally be the year where he receives the prestigious award.
